AppsCluster launched the first cohort of Mobile Application Development Apprentices on Friday 18th of October at Google’s Campus London.

    • 45% have some previous programming background
    • All are Londoners

  • Prepare students with the following skills:
  • Read and Write in Java
  • Confidently use the Eclipse IDE
  • How to work in a dev team Using collaboration and Project management tools
  • Version control Testing, reporting and the process of bug fixing
  • Adapting the material to include requirements identified during the meetings with the employers

  • Data Sheet: anonymous, online and easy to compare the practical abilities of all trainees
  • Interview
  • Taster week

  • 30% learning (front loaded training)
  • Project management
  • Android Development
  • iOS Development
  • Building a game using Cocos-2d
  • 70% working

How much does the trainee cost the company?

The training costs for all trainees is covered by the government apprentice scheme, apprentices do have to be paid a minimum Apprentice minimum hourly allowance – employers can choose to pay the national minimum wage, the London living wage or higher.

Apprentice Minimum

  • £2.68 per hour

  • Total Annual Cost: £2,909.60
  • Total cost is based on employer receiving a government grant of £1,500 *paid on the 13th week of apprentice employment.

National Minimum

 

  • £5.06 per hour

London Living

 

  • £8.55 per hour

  • Pre Training: Intensive Java training five days per week
    • 31/10/2013 – 19/12/2013
  • Work Placement: A one or two week work placement to enable employers to test drive apprentices
    • 06/01/2014 – 12/02/2014
  • Apprenticeship part 1: Classroom training 3 days per week and working 2 days per week
    • 12/02/2014 – 28/07/2014
  • Apprenticeship Part 2: Classroom training 2 days per week and working 3 day per week
    • 01/08/2014 – 15/09/2014
  • Apprenticeship Part 3: Working 5 days per week
    • 15/09/2014 – 12/02/2015
